Coronado Island Quarantine, Day 24 – Living in Denial

Coronado Island Quarantine, Day 24 – Living in Denial

Today is Sunday, April 12, and it’s Easter. My neighbors are having friends over for barbecues, the kids are playing together, and it almost feels like nothing unusual is going on.

On a sweeter note, someone left some empty Easter eggs on our front step yesterday, asking us to hide them around our RV plot for the kids to find. Some of the kids took the chocolates I had put inside, so I refilled the eggs for the next group. After a week of rain, the sun finally came out, making it seem like a normal day.

However, it’s hard to ignore that things aren’t normal. The markets, companies, and even families are acting like everything is fine, but at some point, the reality will catch up with us.

Sometimes, I find myself in denial too. Right now, I’m stuck in the US, and with the European Union discussing keeping borders closed until September, my summer trip won’t happen. Even if the borders do reopen, it’s unlikely that I’ll have my green card by then.

But for now, it’s a sunny, relaxing day, and pretending everything is fine doesn’t seem so bad. Happy Easter!
